Camp Oliver is hiring responsible, hard working people who love working with children in the outdoors. Camp Oliver Staff's goal is to ensure that our campers are having fun in a safe, positive environment. Working at Camp Oliver is a powerful experience. Not only will you grow through new friendships and daily challenges, you will play an integral part in helping children have an experience of a lifetime.

All summer positions are full-time from late June to mid August. Positions are salaried, plus room and board will be provided Sunday through Friday of each session – all staff are required to leave Camp property for their weekends off.

The following are brief job descriptions for positions available for summer employment. Salaries are negotiated individually, on a weekly basis (per camper session), based upon age and experience. Salaries include room and board, accident insurance, and training. All staff is required to be CPR/First Aid certified. Camp Oliver will sponsor a day for all staff to become certified.

Program Director: Age 21 and older – DMV printout required. Responsible for camp program, scheduling of events during summer, works closely with director to run camp in an orderly fashion. In charge of camp in absence of director, supervises staff, assists in staff training. Two (2) years previous camp programming experience highly preferable.

Head Counselor: Age 21 and older – DMV printout required. Assist in hiring staff when possible, staff liaison. Deals with all immediate staff problems in a quick and orderly fashion. Main supervisor of staff, makes sure jobs are being done properly. Previous camp experience preferable.

CIT Director: Age 21 and older – DMV printout required. Run the Counselor in Training program, direct supervisor for CIT's. First stop for all problems and issues dealing with CIT's.

Health Supervisor/Nurse: NP or RN licensed in the state of California. DMV printout required. Experience in a camp, school, or other public health setting dealing with children. Responsible for instructing staff on health and safety procedures. Guide staff in reporting illness/injury/unsafe conditions that might contribute to accidents. Report admissions into the infirmary to the director. Administer all medications. Keep record of infirmary activity. Prepare and maintain first aid kits. Make physical checks on all campers upon their arrival to camp, review their health records and become familiar with insurance forms.

Head Chef: Age 25 and older – DMV printout required. Current Food Handler's Card. Experience in purchasing/ordering large quantities of food, knowledge of nutritional needs of campers. Supervise kitchen staff. Ability to adjust to camp resources, conditions and program, plan 10-day cycles of menus. Prepare, cook, and serve using surplus commodities. You will be cooking each meal for approximately 100 people. Keep records of purchases, food storage and control budget. Cleaning and care of kitchen equipment and floors. Responsible for cleaning/closing down kitchen at the end of the summer. Accountable to the director.

Assistant Chef: Age 18 and older – Experience in quantity cooking and food preparation. Current Food Handler's Card. Take direction from Head Chef. Responsible for sanitation and cleanliness of kitchen at all times. Share in responsibilities of Head Chef and other duties assigned by the director.

Dish Washer: Age 16 and older – Current Food Handler's Card. Experience in the area of kitchen cleaning and food preparation. Assist the Head Chef and Assistant Chef with preparing and serving the meals. Clean and wash utensils, pans, and mop floors after every meal. Make sure the kitchen and storage areas are clean at all times.

Aquatics Director/Lifeguard WSI: Age 21 and older for Aquatics Director. Age 18 and older for Lifeguard WSI. Current WSI and Red Cross Certifications. Experience with pool programs. Able to observe and respond to dangers at pool. Test swimmer's ability. Keep pool locked while off duty and remain at pool area while campers and staff are present. Wear uniform red bathing suit while on duty and participate in overall camp program. Other camp duties as assigned.

Arts & Crafts Specialist: Age 18 and older - DMV printout required. Ability to organize, teach, and supervise campers and staff during scheduled A&C time. Knowledge of camp A&C projects, and prepare at least two projects campers can bring home. Keep inventory of all supplies and keep area clean and neat. Participate in overall camp program.

Nature Specialist: Age 18 and older – DMV printout required. Have knowledge of endangered species, ecology and conservation. Ability to teach and supervise campers and staff at activities. Work with A&C specialist, programming together. Participation in overall camp program.

Cabin Leader: Age 18 and older (Graduated High School) – Hard Working, follow directions, honest and able to work with children ages 6-16. Experience in camp situations, supervise campers and staff, and organize and implement activities for your cabin of up to 12 campers and 3 staff with the Program Director. Follow rules and help others to do the same. Provide leadership to campers/staff. Enthusiastic, and works well with other staff members. Observe and respond to campers. Live with campers; participate in overall camp program and staff meetings. Other duties as assigned.

Cabin Counselor: Age 17 and older – Hard working, honest, and able to work well with children ages 6-12. Be able to follow directions and rules of Camp Oliver and help others to do the same. Enthusiastic, works well with fellow staff members. Live with campers, respond to campers, assist with activities, and participate in overall camp program. Other duties as assigned.

Specialists: Age 18 and older – We have a variety of specialty areas including Archery, Drama, Dance, Sports, in addition to those already listed. You may apply for these positions directly. Previous experience highly preferred.
